We are pleased to report that thanks to the generosity of MEDRIX donors, our partners in Thua Thien-Hue Province in Central Vietnam have started their 2017 round of community health training! The first stage of our project with Center for Preventative Medicine has been completed, with training for health professionals completed in A Luoi District. These professionals have gone on to train 78 preschool teachers and nurses from Nam Dong and Phu Loc Districts so far! The teachers and nurses work at 36 different preschools, and work directly with thousands of children per day.
Before the training course, the participants from the preschools reviewed basic information on disease prevention and common accident risks at schools before diving in to the course. The course material covered a variety of community and public health topics such as: disease prevention, safe water usage, latrine and personal hygiene, choking and drowning procedures, and environmental sanitation. Participants also completed CPR and first aid training, and planned how to coordinate with local authorities in the event of an emergency. The teachers and nurses got a lot of hands-on experience and received teaching materials to take back to their preschools and share with their colleagues.
After the course was completed, more than 90% of the participants rated the course as “very helpful” for everyday procedures at their school. They want to thank MEDRIX donors for sponsoring the course, and hope to receive more training in the future! Because of the generosity of our supporters, many children’s lives will be saved and improved throughout Central Vietnam as more and more preschool teachers and nurses are trained in community health practices, and we sincerely thank you!
