Child and Young Adult Heart Surgeries
MEDRIX sponsors heart surgeries for children and adults in Vietnam whose families can’t afford to cover the medical expenses. As an organization working to save and improve lives, we strongly believe in providing disadvantaged families and children with hope and a healthy future. We partner with other organizations and surgeons in Vietnam to assure these children will receive the best of care and the best atmosphere for a successful surgery: all while being close to home for the best possible outcome.
In 2015, MEDRIX expanded our heart surgery sponsorship to include adults who desperately require heart surgery to continue caring for their families and living their everyday lives. These adults have often already lived their lives experiencing an opportunity gap due to their health constraints. Heart surgery will give them a new lease on life, and enable them to pursue a healthy and happy future for their families. We were honored to provide life-saving heart surgeries for 23 children and adults in need in 2016. Click here to read about some of the successful outcomes of our 82 surgeries to date.
Children Needing Heart Surgery
Thousands of children in Vietnam younger than five years of age suffer from heart disease. Children’s heart disease is the most common birth defect globally and 90% of the children born in developing countries have no access to the care they need. With labored breathing and lack of energy, these children are not able to attend school and run around and play like other children. Many are stuck in hospital beds spending all their energy on taking their next breath. Even if a child has access to the care they need, too often the family can’t afford to pay the medical expenses. MEDRIX sponsors life-saving heart surgery for poor children who desperately need it and can’t afford it.
Young Adults Needing Heart Surgery
Young adults of child-bearing age bear a heavy burden: a lifetime of a weak heart and poor health takes a toll, and many children who do not receive surgery are unable to complete their education. This means that as adults, they are often confined to physical labor roles which are extremely taxing on their health, or unable to work at all. Young adults are often considered the breadwinner of their families, and have their own children and spouses to take care of as well as their parents or siblings. MEDRIX sponsors heart surgery for young adults of child-bearing age to give them a new lease on life and a chance for success for the whole family.
