MEDRIX will spend Valentine’s Day in a pediatric hospital in Hue, Vietnam, to express love for the children there undergoing heart surgery.

MEDRIX is teaming up with nursing students from Seattle Pacific University to arrive in the Vietnamese children’s hospital on Valentine’s Day. It is the beginning of a month-long study abroad program that is as practical as it is profound for both the nursing team and those in their care.

The Valentine’s Day visit supports MEDRIX’s work of funding heart surgeries for children who desperately need it, but whose families cannot afford the medical expense. The affect of the surgery is life-changing. The children can play freely once more and attend school without the debilitation of their heart condition or the stigma attached to it.

MEDRIX-funded heart surgeries will continue in March, April and May this year.

The MEDRIX and SPU student nursing team will continue their journey through Vietnam, learning as much or more as they give during pediatric hospital and community health rotations. Not only will the children gain new hearts, the students will gain insight into the hearts and minds of the Vietnamese people, their sociology, their values and customs.
